“Freeman” By Billy Dean Thomas

After graduating from Smith College in 2014 I have been honored to perform on stages from ABC's the View, Broadway to Boston's Channel 5, WBUR, and perform at the Spotify headquarters. Currently, the only thing that is keeping me from focusing on my music full time to pursue more opportunities is a federal loan from 2011. Freeman is a song I wrote  about what it means to feel powerless and how to translate that powerlessness into freedom, whether physical, financial, mental or spiritual.

Freeman is a song I wrote on my first EP titled Rocky Barboa which uses boxing as an extended metaphor to discuss the hustle of a queer black artist fighting their way to the top of a historically male dominated arena.
